San Nicola Stadium is the largest sports facility in the city of Bari, in the region of Puglia and southern Italy. Designed by Renzo Piano and nicknamed by him " Spaceship" for its architectural shape, it was built in 1990 on the occasion of the 14th Football World Cup in Italy. Owned by the Municipality of Bari, it was entitled to the patron Saint of the city following a popular referendum. It hosts the home matches of the football club SSC Bari. To date it is the third largest stadium in Italy, preceded only by Meazza in Milan and Olimpico in Rome, and the 33rd European stadium for capacity. San Nicola has hosted many concerts by Italian artists such as Tiziano Ferro, Vasco Rossi, Antonello Venditti and Ultimo.
